Jonah Simons

Jonah brings over a decade of experience in environmental science, compliance, and leadership
to the Alabama Environmental Council. He currently serves as Environmental Manager at Nucor
Steel Birmingham. Since joining Nucor in 2014, Jonah has helped strengthen the company’s
environmental stewardship programs, ensuring sustainable operations and continuous
improvement in environmental performance.


Before entering the steel industry, Jonah worked as a Staff Scientist with August Mack
Environmental in Columbus, Ohio, providing consulting services focused on compliance,
remediation, and environmental assessment. He also gained extensive field experience as a Field
Technician for the Great Lakes Environmental Center and as a Biological Assessment Intern
with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, where he supported fish and water quality
assessments under state and federal monitoring programs.


Jonah holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Ohio Northern University. A
lifelong advocate for conservation and responsible resource management, he is excited to support
AEC’s mission to protect Alabama’s natural environment.


Jonah lives in Auburn with his wife, Kate, and their son, Roarke. Together, they enjoy traveling,
cooking, and exploring the outdoors.
